To a Beautiful New Year

Happy New Year! 2010 ... what will it hold for each of us? No one knows, even the biggest "resolution maker" in the world doesn't know. We resolved ourselves to be thinner, to be better, to be more productive, to stop eating too much, driving too fast, etc, etc, etc, but the reality is that the next 365 days are an unknown.

If we resolve to do anything this year, lets make up our minds to live each day as if it is our last day, to look for beauty in the midst of bustle, to find the unique colors and shapes of God's handiwork, to make the lives of those around us a bit more beautiful because we crossed their paths!

Cool Clouds

This is So-Cal. We don't do weather. Thunder? Lightening? What's that?

Until today. A very strange thing happened -- we got clouds, and thunder and lightening, the whole works. It even pitter-pattered a few drops of something they told us on the weather channel is rain!

Clouds are cool. Thought I'd take a snap of them for other people who don't get to see them very often.

Track and Field

In my "day job" I am one of the track coaches at the school where I teach. We're hosting the league finals this week, so during the competition I snuck away quickly to compose a shot of the runners on the "track" at a slightly different view from the "field". Not a usual thing to have roses blooming near a track, but it made for a fun image.

More images from the track meet to come. Check back!

The Grand Floridian

One year ago this week, my wife, me and Mackenzie had one of our all-time great family vacations. We got to go to Disney World for four days, and just had a blast. Great spring weather, and a vacation that not only met the needs of a 7 year old, but also a couple of old folks (if early 40's is old).

Here's a photo project of the Grand Floridian, Disney World's showcase hotel and resort. We're living on Memory Lane this week!

And of the Wilderness Lodge, where we stayed.

Mack and Daddy Date

Last weekend we had a drop-dead gorgeous spring day, with light clouds puffing their way through blue skies. Windy and cool, it was a great day for outside, so outside we went! Sycamore Canyon was the perfect spot for Mackenzie and me to get away on a little Daddy-Daughter date. We took our cameras and had a great time!

Of course, no date would be complete without a trip to Starbucks! A pink treat for my pink girl!

I love you too, Mackenzie!!

Texas Sky

While I was in Texas recently, a thunderstorm swept through the area and left an odd mix of cloud and light on it's way out of town. There was no editing done on this image, just straight out of the camera!

Growth

While traveling in the San Juan Islands a couple of summers ago, we happened upon a long wooden fence. In that soggy climate, needless to say there were all kinds of things growing on it. I've never seen this kind of fungus, though.
